St John Canada mission to Haiti

Posted: 18 January 2010

Montreal, January 15, 2010: St. John Ambulance is about to mobilize its familiar volunteer first responders overseas for the first time since World War II. Quebec Council chairman Serge H. Malaison explained that St. John Canada will respond to the still-unfolding disaster in Haiti and Quebec has been asked to spearhead Canada’s St John Ambulance mission there because of the language skills and large Haitian community resident there.

“We are planning the deployment in order to address an extraordinarily difficult situation there. In the meantime, I would like to urge people throughout Canada and around the world to donate to the St. John Ambulance Haiti mission. Our volunteers are willing, as always they rely entirely on you public support,” said Mr. Malaison.

“We also need to raise about 250 000$ in order to buy food, water and equipment that will help people in Haiti. A web page has been set up to accept donations for the St. John Ambulance mission to Haiti. We also accept cheques payable to "St. John Ambulance—Project Haiti".” These should be mailed to the address below:

St. John Ambulance Canada is by far, the country’s largest network of first responders – operates a highly trained organization of 25,000 volunteers throughout the country. They are a regular presence at major events and deploy in response to natural disasters and other emergencies such as floods, fires and ice storms. Their comportment is so professional that most people don’t realize that they are volunteers.
