The Priory for Wales
Who we are
The Priory for Wales was established in 1918 and, since then, has been striving to achieve its aims and objectives. We believe:
- No-one should suffer from the lack of a trained First Aider
- All communities in Wales should have effective, efficient, charitable First Aid
- St John Wales has a responsibility to develop and encourage our members to become good responsive citizens
- Our volunteers should have the most up-to-date training and equipment to enable them to carry out their role within the community
St John Wales has over 4,500 volunteers, who attend more than 10,000 events and dedicate 600 hours of their time each, every year. First Aid cover is a legal requirement at many events and, without our volunteers, many of these events couldn’t take place. Anyone can become a member, whether they are aged 5 or 105 – there is something to suit everyone
The youth of St John Wales are our lifeblood – over 60% of our members are under the age of 18, making our youth movement one of the strongest in the country. Our Badgers have a number of challenges they can fulfil on their way to becoming a Super Bader; our Cadets can also work towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award, as well as taking part in duties at the Millennium Stadium.
Our adult members are not only dedicated to caring for the Welsh community – our trainers also disseminate best practice to other Priories across the world. In recent years we have enjoyed close links with Zambia, and our Cadets have accompanied adults to Tibet to teach other children vital lifesaving skills.
What we do
St John Wales receives no core government funding, so we rely on the good work of fundraisers and our commercial activities to continue our charitable works.
Patient Transport Service
St John Wales prides itself on providing modern vehicles and a friendly, professional car service to patients across the UK and Europe. We transport over 11,000 patients each year from hospital to home.
We provide non-emergency transport at short notice, giving our patients comfort and peace of mind. Transport is also available to and from family gatherings, entertainment venues and sporting events where public transport is unsuitable.
Training
Every year St John Wales trains more than 20,000 people in essential First Aid skills. We also have a vast supply of First Aid equipment, with more than 4,000 items in stock.
Our company provides high-quality, interactive training, which can be provided at our state-of-the-art training centres, or onsite at customer premises. We have a wide range of courses, tailor-made to suit the needs of the individual.
